Undercover, a long-running crime story on Netflix, is a gripping, gritty, and often darkly comedic show that was based on true events. Pretending to be a couple, two brave secret agents sneak into a drug lord’s private area. Frank Lammars plays Ferry Bouman, the drug lord based on a real Dutch crime boss, and his business is broken into by an undercover couple who want to build a case against him. Tom Waes, Anna Drijver, and Frank Lammars are the stars of the show.

As is often the case, the bad guy in a show becomes just as interesting as the major characters. Ferry Bouman is no different. People do say that a hero is only as good as his enemy, and Bouman is a great enemy.

How did they come up with Ferry Bouman?
Ferry Bouman is based on the real-life Dutch drug lord Janus van Wessenbeeck, who was a bad guy and a figure of fear. The show also gets its ideas from the story of how he fell from power.

Bouman lives on the border between the Netherlands and Belgium in the show and is presented as a drug lord who makes a lot of ecstasy tablets.

How do you know Janus Van Wesenbeeck?

In real life, Janus van Wesenbeeck was also known for having ties to the drug trade. He was also called “Harry Potter” because of how he looked when he wore glasses.

Janus was finally caught for working with others to sell drugs, and in 2011 he was given a fourteen-year prison term.

Janus was from Eindhoven, but he often worked out of Belgium, bringing in drugs like ecstasy, amphetamines, and marijuana. The crime boss was being looked into for more than ten years, and it was found that he was bringing drugs to Australia worth millions of euros.

He was already in jail for ten years because he was found guilty of running a big criminal organization. He would be freed early from his term in 2015 after an appeal was successful.

No one knows where he is right now.

Was there a show that was like Undercover?
You read that right. The movie Ferry is a straight continuation of the popular Netflix show and comes before Undercover. The movie stars Frank Lammers and Elise Schaap and is about Ferry Bouman’s early life.

The movie was supposed to come out on Netflix on June 17, 2020, but it didn’t come out until 2021.

The script takes people back to 2006 in Amsterdam. We find Ferry Bouman working for Ralph Brink, a powerful drug lord who is also Ferry’s boss. A member of the gang is attacked, and Ralph’s son is seriously hurt. Ferry is asked to find out who did this horrible attack.

The movie would go into more detail about the character and add to his backstory, which would make it a great addition to the TV show.
