No Hard Feelings is now available to buy on digital platforms like Amazon Prime. It’s an R-rated comedy, but that doesn’t mean it can’t talk about class problems in a thoughtful way. And the movie does that because it takes place in Montauk, New York.
In the movie, Maddie, played by Jennifer Lawrence, has always lived in Montauk, New York. She doesn’t like how the recent influx of rich people is driving up real estate prices and forcing poor people to leave their houses. That includes the parents of her co-star, Andrew Barth Feldman, who also plays a dad on-screen.
In an interview with GQ, director and co-writer Gene Stupnitsky said that part of the story was based on the large number of rich city dwellers who left during the pandemic and moved to second homes in small towns. “It kind of upset the balance of that ecosystem,” said Stupnitsky.
The director didn’t want to spend too much time on that problem in the movie, but he does make Montauk an important part of the plot. Here’s what you need to know about where No Hard Feelings takes place and where it was shot.
